The first weekly football release of the 2009 season has been finalized and is now available on the Big Ten website. Below are a few highlights of the release.

Big Ten set to kick off 114th year of football.

Big Ten one of only three conferences with multiple teams among top 10 of media and coaches' polls, and nine of 11 schools received at least one vote.

Three of six teams with 800-plus wins all-time play in Big Ten - Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State.

Big Ten features 51 players on preseason watch lists for 19 national awards, with every school represented.

Six Big Ten standouts enter season ranked among or nearing the top 10 in conference career records.

The Big Ten Network announced today that its third season of "The Big Ten's Greatest Games" will feature 24 new episodes, including two each week, premiering on Mondays, Tuesdays or Wednesdays. The first episode will be the 1989 Holiday Bowl between Penn State and BYU, scheduled for 8 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Sept. 1. Go to http://www.bigtennetwork.com/ for the full schedule of games.

High Five - Women's Basketball

The Big Ten leads all conferences with five players on the 2009-10 John R. Wooden Award Women's Preseason Top 30 List.

Candidates from the Big Ten are Illinois senior Jenna Smith, Michigan State senior Allyssa DeHaan, Ohio State junior Jantel Lavender and sophomore Samantha Prahalis and Penn State senior Tyra Grant.

Ohio State is one of just four schools with multiple players on the list, and Prahalis is the only sophomore to make the cut. Lavender was also a preseason honoree last season.
