Four Big Ten field hockey squads were ranked among the nation's top 20, according to Tuesday's release of the Kookaburra/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll. Michigan State once again led the conference charge as the Spartans earned a No. 8 ranking behind their 4-2 start to the 2009 season. Indiana (4-2) moved up to No. 17 in this week's rankings while Ohio State (2-3) checked in at No. 20. Penn State, Iowa and Michigan also received votes in this week's rankings.
New to the rankings this week is Northwestern, who check in at No. 18. The Wildcats are off to a 6-2 start to the season, their best eight-game start since the 1995 season. Northwestern won a pair of matches last weekend to move into the top 20 this week.
