In the fifth weekend of Big Ten play, Iowa saved its perfect season with a last-second touchdown pass at Michigan State to improve to 8-0 overall and 4-0 in the conference to maintain possession of first place in the standings. The two teams that shared the Big Ten title last season both stayed close to the Hawkeyes, with four-time defending champ Ohio State improving to 4-1 in conference action with a triumph over Minnesota while Penn State picked up a road victory at Michigan to move to 3-1 in Big Ten play. In other Big Ten action, Purdue knocked off Illinois and Northwestern rallied from a 28-3 deficit to edge Indiana on a late field goal.
