MBB: Just Another Monday

It's Monday and that means another crazybusy day in the Communications office here in Park Ridge. Monday means Player of the Week voting, coaches teleconference and the weekly release.

It's Week 10 of the college hoops season...here's what's happening the Big Ten on this Monday...

- Michigan's DeShawn Sims was named the Big Ten's Player of the Week.

- In for the Long Haul: Michigan's John Beilein has agreed to a contract extension to lead the Wolverines through the 2015-16 season, U-M athletic director Bill Martin announced today.

Currently in his third season at the helm of the Wolverine program, Beilein has continued to be a proven winner throughout his career. Beilein has won 588 career games, placing him in the top 20 in victories among active Division I head coaches. In 32 years behind the bench, Beilein has compiled 27 winning seasons including 15 20-win campaigns. Read More...

- Now that we're into conference play, here's a reminder of all of the single plays this season.
With an 18-game conference schedule, each Big Ten team will meet two other conference teams once during conference play. Here is the breakdown for 2009-10.

- The Big Ten has three teams ranked among the nation's top 25 for the 10th consecutive week of the season. In the latest edition, Purdue is ranked sixth in both the Associated Press and ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll. Michigan State moves up to No. 7 in the AP and No. 8 in the Coaches Poll after being ranked 10th and 11th, respectively last week. Wisconsin broke Purdue's perfect record in a win on Saturday and now sit at No. 13 and No. 16 in the two national polls. The Big Ten has had a team ranked among the top 10 in the nation each week of the season, with MSU and Purdue ranked in that group. The Big Ten has had eight different teams appear in the AP Top 25 this season, including Illinois, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Northwestern, Ohio State, Purdue and Wisconsin.

- Us. vs. Them: Iowa and Michigan will step out of conference play this week to meet non-conference opponents. The Hawkeyes will entertain Tennessee State (4-13) Tuesday night, while the Wolverines will play hosts to the No. 15/15 UConn (11-4) Huskies on Sunday afternoon. The Big Ten owns a 95-38 non-conference record this season for a win percentage of .714.
