No. 22 Gonzaga def. ILLINOIS, 85-83 (OT)
Illinois used a late rally after trailing by as many as 21 in the first half to force Gonzaga into overtime during Saturday's showdown at the United Center. The Illini relied on a three-pointer by Dominique Keller in the closing seconds of regulation after a miss by Demetri McCamey to tie the score at 79-79. Four Illini finished with double-digit scoring efforts, led by Keller, who completed the day with 22 points and nine rebounds. In overtime, Brandon Paul and McCamey each netted a pair of free throws to make it 83-80, but the Bulldogs ultimately prevailed 85-83.

MINNESOTA def. IOWA, 86-74
Minnesota opened Saturday's contest with a 21-4 run and never looked back as the Golden Gophers (11-3, 2-0) went on to defeat Iowa 86-74 at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Minnesota's pressure defense forced a total of 25 turnovers, including 18 in the opening 20 minutes of play. Junior guard Blake Hoffarber scored 17 of his game-high 24 points in the first half, connecting on 5-of-7 three pointers while adding six rebounds to help Minnesota roll to its seventh straight win. Iowa (5-9, 0-2) was led by 14 points and nine rebounds from Matt Gatens, while Eric May added 13 points and eight boards.

Michigan State (11-3, 1-0) used a 12-0 run to build a big second-half lead en route to a 91-70 win over Northwestern on Saturday night. Spartan junior Kalin Lucas scored 15 of his 21 points in the second half and added six rebounds and four assists to lead MSU to victory in its Big Ten opener. After breaking into the Top 25 for the first time since 1969, the No. 25-ranked Wildcats (10-3, 0-2) dropped its second straight decision to a conference foe. John Shurna led Northwestern with 29 points, tying his career high.
