Three Big Ten squads are ranked in the ESPN.com/USA Softball and USAToday/NFCA Preseason Top 25 polls.
Michigan leads the contingent ranked No. 3 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll and No. 4 in the USAToday/NFCA list. Ohio State is ranked No. 16/14 while Northwestern checks in at No. 17/15. Also receiving votes are Purdue in both polls and Iowa in the USAToday/NFCA poll.
The Wolverines welcome back 15 players from its 2009 squad that posted a 47-12-8 record en route to the Big Ten Conference title and the program's ninth NCAA Women's College World Series appearance.
The Wildcats finished the 2009 campaign with a 31-15 record after falling in the NCAA Super Regionals. Fourteen letterwinners will return this season as the 'Cats look for their third Big Ten title and 13th NCAA berth.
The Buckeyes return 14 letterwinners from a year ago after finishing with a 47-11 overall record and making its sixth NCAA Tournament appearance.
The first 2010 regular season polls will be released on Tuesday, Feb. 9 (USA Today/NFCA) and Feb. 16 (ESPN.com/USA Softball). The Big Ten season begins Feb. 11 with two teams in action.
