DSCF3999.JPGQuarterfinal action of the 2010 Big Ten Women's Basketball Tournament is set to begin at 11:30 a.m. ET on Friday.

We have some interesting notes surrounding each quarterfinal contest.  In Friday's opener, Michigan and Michigan State will meet for the first time in Big Ten Tournament play since 1995 when the very first conference tournament took place.

In the second game of the day, Iowa will be the better of the two seeds for the first time, as Penn State has twice defeated the Hawkeyes in 1995 and 2005, but by only a combined margin of nine points.

The first game of the evening session will pair Illinois and Ohio State against each other for the third straight tournament and the third consecutive postseason contest where the Buckeyes are the top seed and the Illini are the No. 9 seed.  Illinois captured the 2008 matchup and the Buckeyes earned revenge in 2009.  Who will get the bragging rights in 2010?

In the nightcap, Purdue owns a 2-0 advantage over Wisconsin in the Big Ten Tournament, but the 2010 game marks the first that the Badgers will own the better seed.  It's also been awhile since UW opened tournament play on a Friday.  The Badgers earned their first first-round bye since competing as the No. 3 seed in 2001.

Here is a brief look at the four matchups on Friday and the history the teams have with one another at the Big Ten Tournament.
