The Hoosiers had 16 base knocks in the contest, led by five players with two hits each. Tyler Burgoon got the win in a 3.1-inning relief appearance, while Jerry Kleman was tagged with the loss.

A complete game from Hawkeye starter Jarred Hippen propelled Iowa to a 5-3 win in East Lansing on Friday, snapping the Spartans' 11-game winning streak. Hippen gave up three runs on seven hits and just one walk, striking out two. Ryan Durant led the Hawkeyes at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored. The Spartans were led by Eli Boike, who tallied three hits and scored a run. AJ Achter took the loss, giving up five runs on five hits and three walks with five strikeouts.

Purdue opened its Big Ten season with a dramatic extra-inning win at home on Friday, edging Minnesota, 3-2. Cameron Perkins doubled in the winning run in 10th, capping a come-from-behind effort that saw the Boilermakers down 2-0 early in the game. Boilermaker starter Matt Bischoff allowed two runs on six hits without a walk, striking out two in nine innings of work. Calvin Gunter got the win, getting the last two outs in the 10th. Minnesota's Seth Rosin allowed just one earned run on four hits without walking a batter, striking out four in 7.2 frames. Michael Kvasnicka led the Gophers at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run with a homer and a double.

Ohio State built an early lead and never looked back, defeating Northwestern, 11-1, in the teams' conference opener on Friday. The Buckeyes combined for seven extra-base hits, including three home runs in the contest. Four Ohio State players had multiple hits, including a 4-for-5 performance from Cory Rupert. OSU starter Alex Wimmers gave up one run on six hits and two walks with five strikeouts in seven innings for his sixth win of the year. Chris Kontos and Geoff Rowan each went 2-for-4 to lead the Wildcats at the plate.
