Former University of Wisconsin standout Chris Solinsky smashed the American record in the 10,000 meters at last weekend's Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif., becoming the first American to break the 27-minute barrier. It was the first time he had ever competed in the 10,000 meters.

A five-time NCAA Champion while at Wisconsin, Solinsky crossed the tape in a time of 26:59.60, breaking the old record by more than 14 seconds. He covered the final 800 meters in 1:56, including a last 56-second split on the final lap.
