Penn State Director of Athletics Tim Curley introduced Jeff Thompson as the new coach of the Nittany Lion women's gymnastics program on Thursday. Thompson replaces Steve Shephard, who resigned after 18 years with the Nittany Lion program.

Thompson comes from Auburn University, where he was a two-time SEC Coach of the Year and will be joined on staff by his wife Rachelle, who will serve as associate head coach. He spent the past 11 seasons at Auburn, where it qualified for eight straight NCAA Regional competitions.

"Rachelle and I have never been more excited in our lives," Thompson said. During our visit last week, we were overwhelmed by the history, tradition and overall integrity of the Penn State athletic department."
