The first edition of the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) standings was announced on Sunday night and the Big Ten leads all conferences with four teams ranked among the top 15. The Big 12 and SEC rank second with three teams each among the top 15, followed by two teams each from the Mountain West and Pac-10. Michigan State tops all Big Ten schools at No. 7 in the initial BCS standings, the highest BCS ranking in school history, breaking the previous high of No. 9 set in the Dec. 5, 1999 BCS poll. Ohio State ranks No. 10 in the first BCS poll, the ninth straight season the Buckeyes have appeared in a BCS ranking. Wisconsin is rated No. 13 and has now appeared in the BCS poll in six of the last seven seasons. Iowa is ranked No. 15 after setting a program record by rising to No. 4 in the BCS last season.
