The Manning Award named Indiana's Ben Chappell, Michigan's Denard Robinson and Northwestern's Dan Persa as "Players to Watch" based on their performances on Oct. 2. The Manning Award, given annually to the nation's top quarterback, honors the best performances every week for players not currently on the watch list as "Players to Watch."
Chappell established school records with 45 completions (tied for third in Big Ten history), 64 attempts and 480 passing yards and added three TD passes against Michigan, producing just the second 400-yard passing game in school history. Persa set career highs with 99 rushing yards, 309 passing yards and 408 yards of total offense at Minnesota. He completed 23 of 30 passes (76.7 pct.) with two TDs, including two fourth-quarter drives to rally the team from a 28-20 deficit. Robinson accounted for 494 yards of total offense and five touchdowns, including the game-winning score with 17 seconds left at Indiana.
