The Walter Camp Football Foundation has named Michigan State linebacker Greg Jones its Football Bowl Subdivision National Defensive Player of the Week for games ending October 16. This is the seventh year that the Walter Camp Football Foundation will honor one offensive and one defensive player as its national Bowl Subdivision player of the week during the regular season. Recipients are selected by a panel of national media members and administered by the Walter Camp Football Foundation.
Jones had a game-high 14 tackles as 13th-ranked Michigan State remained unbeaten with a 26-6 victory over Illinois. The senior linebacker added one quarterback hurry and also broke up one pass as the Spartans held the Illini scoreless in the second half. Michigan State is 7-0 for the first time since 1966.
