FH: Four Big Ten Schools Start NCAA Championships

Four Big Ten teams join in the quest to become the new NCAA Champion of the season when Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State and Penn State open play in the 2010 NCAA Field Hockey Championship, which begins Saturday.

Big Ten Co-Champion and Big Ten Tournament Champion Michigan (15-6) opens play in the Chapel Hill Regional, where the Wolverines will face Old Dominion at 2 p.m. ET Saturday. The winner between the Wolverines and Monarchs will face the winner of Stanford-North Carolina on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET.

Earning the Big Ten's first at-large bid to the tournament is Michigan State, who begins play in the Charlottesville Regional. The Spartans will face Virginia at 11:30 a.m. ET Saturday. The winner will advance to face the winner of the Princeton-Wake Forest matchup on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET.

Ohio State, which earned an at-large bid to the tournament after finishing as the 2010 Big Ten Tournament runners-up last weekend. The Buckeyes will face Albany in the University Park Regional at 2 p.m. ET on Saturday. With a win, the Buckeyes (16-4) would move on to face Penn State or Syracuse in the second round on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET.

The Nittany Lions (14-5) also earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship after advancing to the 2010 Big Ten Tournament semifinals last weekend. The Nittany Lions will host Syracuse at 11:30 p.m. ET on Saturday. The winner of that game will move on to face the winner of the Ohio State-North Albany matchup.
