MADISON, Wis. -- Freshman Sammy Albanese (Belmont, Calif./Castilleja) fired a three-hit shutout in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday at Wisconsin, helping the Wildcats earn a split in the series with a 2-0 victory. Northwestern put the game's first run on the board in the top of the second. Marisa Bast (Orange, Calif./Villa Park) earned a leadoff walk, then moved to second on Kelly Quinn's (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) groundout. A Jordan Wheeler (Garden Grove, Calif./Los Alamitos) single back through the middle brought Bast around to the plate to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead. RECAP

Wisconsin 9, Northwestern 8
MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin softball team couldn't have asked for a more thrilling Big Ten home-opener. Securing their second Big Ten victory in true comeback fashion, Wisconsin (20-14, 2-3 Big Ten) rallied back from an 8-2 deficit in the fifth inning to top Northwestern (18-10, 0-3 Big Ten), 9-8, in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday at Goodman Diamond. UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Senior left-handed pitcher Morgan Melloh tossed a one-hitter and the Hoosiers (21-15, 3-2 Big Ten) got three RBI singles in the top of the eighth inning en route to a 3-0 win at Beard Field on the campus of Penn State University (18-15, 4-3 Big Ten). Sara Olson was 3-for-4 in the game and had one of the RBI singles in the decisive inning. RECAP

URBANA, Ill. - The University of Illinois softball team earned a convincing win over Ohio State in the opening game of the weekend series in Columbus, Ohio, downing the Buckeyes, 8-0 in five innings. Jessica Davis totaled two homers on the day to go with five RBIs, while Ashley Conrad added a three-run homer as part of a six-run third inning. RECAP

Michigan 13, Purdue 1
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 4-ranked University of Michigan softball team recorded 11 hits, including four home runs, en route to a 13-1, five-inning rout against Purdue on Saturday afternoon (April 9) in front of 1,468 fans at the Wilpon Softball Complex, home of Alumni Field. The win moved the Wolverines back to the top of the Big Ten Conference standings. RECAP

Iowa 5, Michigan State 3
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa softball team posted a 5-3 victory over Michigan State in its Big Ten home opener Saturday afternoon at Pearl Field. Massey scattered five hits in the complete game victory, finishing with three strikeouts. The win improved her record to 10-5 on the year. Zoeller paced the team at the plate, going 2-for-3 to collect two of the team's five hits. Watkins finished 1-for-2 with two RBI and a run scored to go along with two walks. RECAP
