EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State softball team (20-15, 2-4 Big Ten) managed to split its doubleheader against Penn State on Wednesday, April 6 at Secchia Stadium in East Lansing, Mich. After dropping the first game by a tough 8-6 score, the Spartans rallied to take game two from the Nittany Lions, 7-6. Freshman Sarah Bowling's first career home run could not come at a better time as she recorded her first homer in the bottom of the fifth for the game-winning run.

Penn State 8, Michigan State 6
The Nittany Lions won its fourth straight comeback game in Big Ten play with an 8-6 victory, which was highlighted by 11 PSU hits and a grand slam by Bell. Penn State (18-13, 4-1 Big Ten) trailed 3-1 with two outs in the top of the fourth inning as the bases were loaded following for Bell. The sophomore belted an opposite field shot off the leftfield foul pole to give the Nittany Lions a crucial 5-3 lead. The grand slam was Penn State's first since Desi Giordano (West Caldwell, N.J.) hit one at Illinois (Mar. 22, 2009), the homer was Bell's fifth of the season as she went 2-for-5 in the game with a first-inning triple. Penn State got on the board in the third inning to tie the game at one when Kailyn Johnson (Yorba Linda, Calif.) singled home Alyssa Renwick (Laurens, S.C.) with two outs.
