Michigan's Mattison, Wisconsin's Chryst Named Finalists for Broyles Award

Michigan defensive coordinator Greg Mattison and Wisconsin offensive coordinator Paul Chryst have been named finalists for the Broyles Award, given annually to the top assistant coach, as announced on Monday. Mattison and Chryst are among five assistants to earn recognition for the award

Chryst orchestrated a Wisconsin offensive attack that averaged 44.83 points-per game this season, which ranked first in the Big Ten and fourth best in the nation. The Badgers racked up 538 points on the year, including 74 touchdowns.

Under Mattison, the Wolverines ranked first in the conference in rushing defense allowing 115.6 yards-per game on the ground. Michigan also ranked second in the Big Ten with 24 sacks during conference play.

Since the inception of the Broyles Award in 1996, the Big Ten has garnered several nominations and one recipient in Ohio State's Jim Heacock (2007). The 2011 Broyles Award winner will be announced on Tuesday, Dec.6, at 11:30 a.m. CT.
