Big Ten Women's Indoor Track & Field Season in Review

The Big Ten Indoor Track & Field season concluded with Michigan State, Ohio State and Wisconsin recording top five finishes on the final day of the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in Nampa, Idaho. Ohio State's Christina Manning placed first in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 7.91, Wisconsin's Dorcas Akinniyi finished second in the pentathlon (4,299), and Michigan State's Tori Franklin recorded a third place finish in the triple jump (13.34). Thirty-eight Big Ten student-athletes from eight women's indoor track & field teams represented the conference at the 2012 NCAA Championships. The complete list can be found by clicking here.

In the Rankings: Ohio State and Wisconsin appeared in the final USTFCCCA National Rankings, released on Monday, March 5. The Buckeyes clocked in at No. 22, while the Badgers finished at No. 24.

All-Americans: Twenty-Six Big Ten student-athletes earned USTFCCCA All-America honors following their performance at the 2012 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships. Click here to see the honorees.

Regional Award Winners: Michigan State, Nebraska and Ohio State earned USTFCCCA Regional recognition, as announced on Monday, March 5. Ohio State's Christina Manning (Great Lakes) was named Track Athlete of the Year, Nebraska head coach Gary Pepin (Midwest) took home Coach of the Year honors and Michigan State assistant Christopher Bostwick earned Assistant Coach of the Year laurels. Nebraska Claims Big Ten Title: Nebraska produced three individual titles en route to the 2012 Big Ten Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships title on Saturday at the Bob Devaney Sports Center Indoor Track. The Huskers finished the two-day event with 114.50 points, followed by Ohio State with 106 points. Penn State came in third with 99 points, followed by fourth-place Illinois (79 points) and fifth-place Michigan State (77.50). For the recap, click here.

Big Ten Awards: The Big Ten Conference office announced on Tuesday, Feb. 28,  the 2012 All-Big Ten women's indoor track and field teams and individual award winners. Highlighting the list, Ohio State junior Christina Manning was named Big Ten Track Athlete of the Year and Purdue senior Leah Eber earned the nod as Field Athlete of the Year. In addition, Manning was tabbed Big Ten Track Athlete of the Championships, while Purdue's Dani Bunch took home Field Athlete of the Championships laurels. Illinois' Ashley Spencer was tabbed Freshman of the Year by the conference coaches, while Husker head coach Gary Pepin was named Coach of the Year by his peers. For the complete release, click here.
