Illinois, Indiana and Iowa all picked up wins in their conference openers on Friday, while Purdue and Ohio State were postponed and will play a doubleheader tomorrow. Michigan State and Minnesota earned victories in non-conference action.

The Nebraska baseball team fell behind early in its Big Ten Conference opener against the Illinois Fighting Illini on Friday night at Hawks Field and were unable to battle back in a 11-3 loss. Michael Pritchard and Chad Christensen each had two hits for the Huskers while junior Justin Parr led the Illini with a season-high four RBI's on two hits. RECAP & BOX SCORE

The Penn State baseball team opened up Big Ten play with a 14-2 loss to Indiana on Friday night. Senior Sean Deegan hit his first homer of the year and senior Joey DeBernardis hit two doubles. Indiana had a seven hit, seven run second inning. All seven runs and six of those hits came with two outs in the inning. The Hoosiers hit two doubles and five singles in the frame to take an early 7-0 lead. RECAP & BOX SCORE


The University of Iowa baseball team defeated Northwestern Friday in its Big Ten opener at Duane Banks Field, 3-2. Iowa won on a walk-off single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth by freshman Jake Yacinich. Senior Jarred Hippen tossed his ninth career complete game in the victory. The Hawkeyes (8-10, 1-0) have won five of their last seven contests. RECAP & BOX SCORE

IPFW def. MICHIGAN, 8-6 (11)

The University of Michigan baseball team fought back to tie the game in both the bottom halves of the ninth and 10th innings, but IPFW's Carter DeBoe hit a two-run home run in the top of the 11th that gave the Mastodons an 8-6 win over the Wolverines in U-M's home opener Friday afternoon at the Wilpon Complex, home of Ray Fisher Stadium. MICHIGAN STATE def. Oakland, 2-1

The Michigan State baseball team defeated Oakland, 2-1, in the 2012 home opener Friday afternoon at McLane Baseball Stadium. Tony Wieber delivered the game-winning hit with an RBI double in the bottom of the eighth inning that drove home Jordan Keur from first base as the Spartans (11-7) won for the seventh time in eight games. MINNESOTA def. The Citadel, 2-1
David Bettenburg delivered a sacrifice fly as the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers rallied and won, 2-1, over The Citadel, tonight at the H.H.H. Metrodome. Trailing 1-0, Minnesota got two runs in the bottom of the ninth to earn the win. The Gophers improve to 10-13, while the Bulldogs dropped to 9-12. RECAP & BOX SCORE
