2012 London Olympics Central: Day 3

Former Big Ten Athlete of the Year David Boudia (USA, Purdue), along with Nick McCrory, took home a bronze medal in the synchronized 10M platform this morning. Check out this commercial to see how Boudia takes diving to new heights.

In a preliminary matchup of women's volleyball heavyweights, the No. 1-ranked USA defeated No. 2 Brazil in a 2008 Olympics final rematch. Led by head coach Hugh McCutcheon (Minnesota), the USA squad features four former standouts from Big Ten institutions in Lindsey Berg (Minnesota), Jordan Larson (Nebraska), Christa Harmotto and Megan Hodge (Penn State).

Big Ten institutions feature three participants in women's basketball action today. Canada, featuring Krista Phillips (Michigan) and Chelsea Aubry (Nebraska), takes on Great Britain, while Lindsay Whalen (Minnesota) takes the USA team's 34-game winning streak into preliminary action against Angola. Matt Grevers (USA, Northwestern) struck gold in the 100 backstroke after earning a silver at the 2008 Games. The former Wildcat blazed the competition with an Olympic record time of 52.16, notching the first gold medal for the Big Ten on Day 3.
