The Big Ten leads the country with seven volleyball teams ranked in the AVCA Division I  Coaches 2012 Preseason Poll, including four top-10 squads, which also leads the nation. Penn State leads the conference contingent at No. 3, followed by Big Ten Champion Nebraska at No. 4. After reaching the NCAA Championship final, Illinois begins the season ranked seventh in the country, while Purdue comes in at No. 9. Minnesota begins the season at No. 16, Michigan is No. 23 and Ohio State is No. 24. Michigan State is also receiving votes in the preseason rankings.
