Wisconsin 8, Illinois 1
It was opportunistic softball for the Badgers Friday afternoon, as they used eight hits to score eight runs and defeat Illinois 8-1 in the opening game of Big Ten Conference play at Eichelberger Field in Urbana. For the second-straight season, Wisconsin opened league play with a win, improving to 23-3 overall (1-0 Big Ten). The win marked UW's 11th-straight victory, tying a school record set earlier in the season. The Badgers took advantage of three Illinois (10-13, 0-1) errors in the third inning to jump out to a 5-0 lead. RECAP

Minnesota 4, Iowa 1
Junior Sara Moulton pitched a complete game and struck out six and sophomore shortstop Tyler Walker went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in and played outstanding defense, as Minnesota opened its 2013 Big Ten schedule with a 4-1 win at Iowa on Friday afternoon. The Gophers (18-10, 1-0 Big Ten) scored all four runs in the top of the second inning, then backed Moulton with flawless defense to defeat an Iowa (19-9, 0-1) team that has defeated five Top 25 teams this season. Michigan 9, Purdue 0
A trio of home runs, including a pair from freshman Sierra Romero, and a five-inning shutout from sophomore Sara Driesenga delivered the 14th-ranked University of Michigan softball team a 9-0 win over Purdue today at the Wilpon Complex, home of Alumni Field. The matchup marked U-M's home and Big Ten opener. RECAP

Nebraska 5, Northwestern 4 (Game 1); Nebraska 14, Northwestern 1 (Game 2)
Game 1: The 20th-ranked Nebraska softball team rallied from a four-run deficit to open its Big Ten Conference season with a 5-4, eight-inning victory over Northwestern in game one of a chilly doubleheader at Bowlin Stadium on Friday. RECAP
Game 2: A pair of big innings powered the 20th-ranked Nebraska softball team to a season-high run total, as the Huskers completed a doubleheader sweep over Northwestern with a 14-1, five-inning win in game two at Bowlin Stadium. RECAP

Ohio State 9, Indiana 5
Guided for the first time at Buckeye Field under first-year head coach Kelly Kovach Schoenly, the Ohio State softball team defeated Indiana, 9-5, in game one of a three game conference series at Buckeye Field. With the victory, the Buckeyes (19-8, 1-0 Big Ten) earn their first conference victory of 2013. "After being down 3-0, I was proud of the way our team battled back throughout the game and we were able to keep the momentum against Indiana and get the win," Schoenly said. Offensively, Ohio State was led by junior Evelyn Carrillo, who went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI, while classmate Leesa Gresham was 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and a run scored. RECAP
