The Big Ten went 9-2-1 during Friday's opening night of the 2013 women's soccer season. No. 19 Michigan recorded a shutout win, along with Indiana, Iowa, Michigan State, Nebraska and Purdue.
The Wolverines blanked visiting Milwaukee, 3-0, while No. 23 Ohio State recorded a 3-2, come-from-behind win over Morehead State. No. 4 Penn State battled visiting West Virginia to a 2-2 draw in double overtime in the first-round of the Penn State Invitational.
Indiana and Iowa both tallied 1-0 shutout victories on the road. The Hoosiers defeated Ohio, while the Hawkeyes outlasted Drake. Michigan State scored twice in the second half to defeat Buffalo, 2-0. Nebraska blanked Southeast Missouri 4-0, and Purdue upended visiting Akron, 5-0, in the opening round of the Boilermaker Challenge Cup.
Wisconsin broke a 2-2 tie with a late goal to defeat Connecticut, 3-2, while Minnesota defeated visiting Toledo, 2-1. Western Illinois scored a pair of late goals to defeat Northwestern 2-1, while Illinois dropped a 4-1 decision at No. 10 Notre Dame.
