Chris Ritter, Northwestern's senior midfielder, was named National Player of the Week by Top Drawer Soccer. Ritter scored two game-winning goals against Saint Mary's (3-0) and Fairleigh Dickinson (2-1), leading the Wildcats to the Northwestern Lakeside Classic championship in Evanston, Ill., from Sept. 20-22.
Collecting his first two goals of the season, Ritter headed in a corner kick and scored on a penalty kick. Ritter was named Most Valuable Player of the tournament, and earned his fourth-career Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honor on Monday.
This weekend, Northwestern will begin Big Ten play against Michigan on Saturday.
