In the latest NSCAA/NCAA women's soccer coaches' top 25 poll released on Tuesday, three Big Ten teams garnered recognition. Penn State led the way at No. 9, followed by No. 15 Michigan. Wisconsin, which made its first appearance in the preseason top 25 poll this season, checked in at No. 24.
After three road wins against Bucknell (6-0), Oklahoma State (4-2) and Tulsa (3-2), the Nittany Lions (6-1-1) jumped from No. 13 to No. 9 in the poll. Michigan moved from No. 11 to No. 15 after a weekend split, while Wisconsin defeated Loyola, 5-1, on Sept. 10 and Milwaukee, 3-0, on Sept. 15.
Ohio State (6-1-1) and Minnesota (7-1-0) also received votes in this week's poll. Last week, Ohio State shut out both Central Michigan (2-0) and St. John's (1-0), while Minnesota blanked Jacksonville, 3-0.
In non-conference play this week, UNI will compete at Iowa on Tuesday, and Wisconsin will host Green Bay on Wednesday. Big Ten play will begin on Thursday, with all 12 teams competing through the weekend.
Michigan State, Illinois, Northwestern, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan will all play on the road, while Nebraska, Ohio State, Penn State, Indiana, Purdue and Iowa will begin the Big Ten season at home.
