The NSCAA/NCAA Coaches, Soccer America and Top Drawer Soccer top 25 men's soccer polls were updated Tuesday, with four Big Ten teams garnering recognition.
In the coaches' poll, Michigan State checked in at No. 14, followed by Northwestern and Penn State at No. 16 and No. 17, respectively. Wisconsin also received votes in the poll. Northwestern led the way in the Soccer America poll at No. 13, followed by No. 14 Michigan State and No. 24 Penn State. In the Top Drawer Soccer poll, Northwestern was ranked No. 13, while Michigan State earned a No. 14 spot. Wisconsin checked in at No. 19, followed by No. 23 Penn State.
Previously unranked Penn State earned its No. 17 ranking after defeating Michigan, 3-1, in University Park, Pa., on Oct. 11. Northwestern earned recognition for its 1-0 defeat of Northern Illinois (Oct. 9) and 0-0 double-overtime draw against SIUE (Oct. 12). The Spartans tied Ohio State, 1-1, in double overtime, while the Badgers notched a three-goal comeback against Indiana in Madison, Wis., on Oct. 11.
Six teams will face nonconference opponents this week. Big Ten play will resume on Friday, when Wisconsin takes on Michigan. Northwestern will travel to Ohio State, while Michigan State will entertain Penn State.
