Northwestern's Jeff Budzien was named one of three "Stars of the Week" by the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award presented by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission. This week's top performances were drawn from the 20 semifinalists for the award.
Although Northwestern University dropped the first triple overtime game in school history, most of the Wildcats' points in the 27-19 loss to Michigan came on the foot of Budzien. On a rainy and windy night in Evanston, Budzien bested the elements to go four-of-four on field goals and added an extra point for a 13-point game. It's the second time in his career that he has made at least four field goals in a game, scoring from 40, 36, 29, and 22 yards out. The senior from Hartland, Wis. is now one point away from the Northwestern career record of 262 points. He also extended his school record for consecutive extra points, having converted all 132 point after tries in his career.
The Lou Groza Award will be presented as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards in Orlando, Fla. on Thursday, December 12th. The three finalists will be honored at the 22nd Annual Lou Groza Awards Banquet on Tuesday, December 10th at the Kravis Center in West Palm Beach, Fla.
