George MacKinnon (Minnesota, 1929, football)
George MacKinnon was an All-American center who served as a U.S. Navy officer during World War II. George MacKinnon was a center for the football team and a three-time letterwinner from 1926-28. During those three seasons, the team complied a 17-5-2 record, including going undefeated during the 1927 season. That 6-0-2 record led the Gophers to a Co-Big Ten Championship title. He became an attorney involved in high-profile labor racketeering cases and later a politician. MacKinnon served on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia from 1969-83.
