Illinois' Tim Simon (1988, track)
The 1988 Big Ten Medal of Honor winner, Simon finished third in the 400 meters at the 1988 NCAA Championships behind two UCLA sprinters who won medals at that year's Seoul Olympics. Simon still holds the Illini record of 44.88 seconds in the 400 meters. He was tabbed Big Ten Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year in 1988, the same year he was named Athlete of both the Indoor and Outdoor Championships. After graduation, Simon earned a medical degree from Howard University and has been a colon and rectal surgeon in Georgia since 2002.
