Penn State Named Tostitos Fiesta Bowl Team of the Week

The Penn State football team was named the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl's National Team of the Week as selected by the Football Writers Association of America, it was announced on Monday. The Nittany Lions grinded past Wisconsin in overtime for a 24-21 win on Saturday, following an emotional Senior Day ceremony. With the thrilling victory over the defending Big Ten champions, Penn State won for the eighth time in its last 10 games to finish with a 6-2 record in conference play and 8-4 mark overall.

Purdue's Marve named Manning Award "Star of the Week"

Purdue quarterback Robert Marve was named among the eight "Stars of the Week" selected by the Manning Award, it was announced on Monday. Marve recorded a career-high 348 passing yards on 20-of-29 passing with four touchdowns to lead the Boilermakers to a 56-35 victory over Indiana to not only retain the Old Oaken Bucket, but also to become bowl eligible for the second straight year.

Fans can now go to the Allstate Sugar Bowl Facebook page to vote for what they think was the best performance from this past weekend. Northwestern Receives AFCA Academic Achievement Award

For the seventh time since 1998, the Northwestern football team will receive the American Football Association Academic Achievement Award, the organization announced on Monday. Northwestern shares this year's award with Stanford, with both schools achieving a 100 percent graduation rate for football student-athletes that entered school in the 2005-06 academic year. The Wildcats will accept their award at the 90th annual AFCA concention on Monday, Jan. 7, 2013 in Nashville, Tenn.

NaVorro Bowman, LB, San Francisco 49ers (Penn State) - Tallied a team-high 13 tackles, including 12 solo, in the 49ers' 32-7 win over the Bears.

Tom Brady, QB, New England Patriots (Michigan) - Threw for 331 yards and three touchdowns on 24-of- 35 passing in New England's 59-24 defeat of Indianapolis.

Drew Brees, QB, New Orleans Saints (Purdue) - Threw for 219 yards and three touchdowns on 20-of-27  passing in New Orleans' 38-17 win over Oakland.

Dallas Clark, TE, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Iowa) - Caught seven passes for 58 yards and a touchdown in the Bucs' 27-21 overtime defeat of the Panthers.

Lavonte David, LB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Nebraska) - Racked up a team-high nine tackles, including one for loss, in the Bucs' 27-21 overtime victory over the Panthers.

Jay Feely, K, Arizona Cardinals (Michigan) - Nailed all four of his field goal attempts in the Cardinals' 23-19 loss to the Falcons.

Malcolm Jenkins, S, New Orleans Saints (Ohio State) - Notched six tackles, a pass deflection and returned an interception for a touchdown in the Saints' 38-17 victory over the Raiders.

James Laurinaitis, LB, St. Louis Rams (Ohio State) - Racked up a team-high 11 tackles, including 10 solo and two for loss, in the Rams' 27-13 loss to the Jets.

Rob Ninkovich, DE, New England Patriots (Purdue) - Recorded eight tackles, a sack and a forced fumble in the Patriots' 59-24 victory over the Colts.

Paul Posluszny, LB, Jacksonville Jaguars (Penn State) - Notched a team-high 15 tackles, including nine solo, and an interception and a pass deflection in the Jaguars' 43-37 overtimes loss to the Texans.

Bryan Scott, S, Buffalo Bills (Penn State) - Racked up four tackles, a pass deflection and an interception in Buffalo's 19-14 defeat of Miami.

Anthony Spencer, LB, Dallas Cowboys (Purdue) - Recorded six tackles, a pass deflection and a forced fumble in the Cowboy's 23-20 overtime victory over the Browns.

J.J. Watt, DE, Houston Texans (Wisconsin) - Tallied eight tackles, a sack and a pass deflection in the Texans' 43-37 overtime defeat of the Jaguars.

Nine Big Ten field hockey players were tabbed 2012 Longstreth/NFHCA All-Americans, it was announced on Tuesday. Big Ten Champion Penn State led the way with three honorees, followed by Iowa and Northwestern with two recipients each. The list of Longstreth/NFHCA All-Americans can be found below.
