FH: In the Polls

In the newest edition of the Kookaburra/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll released Tuesday, six Big Ten teams received votes with four conference squads earning spots in the top 20.

Checking in at No. 6 was Ohio State, the third week in a row the Buckeyes have maintained that ranking. With two matches left in their season, Michigan State moves to No. 9, while Penn State remains at No. 11 this week. Rounding out the top 20 was Michigan at No. 12, with the Wolverines having won ten of their last eleven matches. Also receiving votes this week was Indiana and Northwestern.

FH: Michigan and Ohio State Garner Weekly Laurels

The Big Ten Conference announced the winners of the weekly field hockey awards on Monday. Ohio State's Berta Queralt won Offensive Player of the Week, teammate Jenn Sciulli won Defensive Player of the Week, and Michigan's Rachael Mack earned Freshman of the Week honors.

FH: Weekend Recap

All seven Big Ten field hockey teams were in action this weekend, with all seven teams competing in conference games. In the marquee matchup on Friday, No. 12 Michigan downed Northwestern, 4-3 (OT), to move to 4-0 in Big Ten play. No. 6 Ohio State defeated No. 7 Michigan State and No. 11 Penn State to become 3-1 in the conference and 11-3 overall. Indiana went 2-0 this weekend as they beat Iowa 2-1 (OT) and Villanova 2-1.

With three weeks left of regular season action, the race for the Big Ten regular season championship nears its climax as the top two teams in the conference face off to highlight a trio of Big Ten matchups Friday afternoon.

In a 3 p.m. ET contest, No. 7 Michigan State (11-3, 1-2 Big Ten) visits No. 6 Ohio State   (9-3, 1-1) while Iowa (3-9, 0-3) heads east to Indiana (7-5, 0-3) for a 3:30 p.m. ET start. Other Friday matchups include Northwestern visiting No. 12 Michigan with the winner having the inside track to the No. 1 seed in next month's Big Ten Tournament.

Four matches decorate Sunday's schedule, including two non-conference matchups. At Noon ET, Villanova will face Indiana and Iowa visits No. 10 Louisville, then Michigan State hosts Northwestern. At 1 p.m. ET, No. 11 Penn State (9-3. 3-1) travels to Ohio State in the day's second conference tilt.

In the latest Kookaburra/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll released on Tuesday, six Big Ten field hockey teams received votes in this week's rankings, with four conference schools earning top 20 status.

Ohio State remained at No. 6 in the rankings for the second straight week. The Buckeyes have won six of their last seven matches and boast an 9-3 record overall. Also in the top 20 is Michigan State (11-3), checking in at No. 7, Penn State (9-3), earning a No. 11 ranking, and Michigan (9-5) takes the No. 12 spot after remaining undefeated in conference play at 3-0.

The remaining two Big Ten schools ranked outside the top 20, but still received votes this week. Indiana (7-5) and Northwestern (10-4) were all recognized by the voters.

FH: Three Schools Earn Weekly Field Hockey Awards

The Big Ten Conference announced the winners of the weekly field hockey awards on Monday. Northwestern's Chelsea Armstrong won Offensive Player of the Week, Penn State's Ayla Halus won Defensive Player of the Week, and Michigan's Rachael Mack earned Freshman of the Week accolades.

Week three of field hockey Big Ten play concluded on Sunday, with two teams earning back-to-back wins over the course of the week. Northwestern defeated U.C. Davis and Indiana to jump to the top of the conference standings while No. 15 Michigan continued its winning ways with victories over Miami (Fla.) and IowaNo. 16 Penn State and No. 6 Ohio State also picked up conference wins this past weekend.

Another weekend of Big Ten field hockey action begins today with a pair of conference matchups. First, Indiana looks to continue its winning streak when the Hoosiers travel to Northwestern, which has won six of its last seven matches, in a 3 p.m. ET contest. The contest will be aired on the Big Ten Network on Monday, Oct. 11 at  4 p.m. ET. Also on Friday, No. 15 Penn State, continues its two game winning streak when the Nittany Lions visit Michigan State, at 3 p.m. ET. The last contest on Friday features No. 14 Michigan as they host in-state rival Miami (OH), starting at 4 p.m. ET.

A non-conference match highlighst Saturday's slate, with Indiana, facing U.C. Davis at Noon ET.

Two matches round out the weekend action on Sunday, one of which is a non-conference meeting. Michigan State welcomes in No. 11 Wake Forest for a Noon ET contest, while in conference action, Michigan hosts Iowa at Noon ET for a repeat of the first round game of the 2009 Big Ten Field Hockey Tournament.
