The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced its regional Athlete of the Year and Coach of the Year awards today, with Michigan State's Emily MacLeod and Minnesota's Stephanie Price earning top honors among athletes in their respective regions. Spartan head coach Walt Drenth also took home the Women's Coach of the Year award in the Great Lakes region.

MacLeod, the 2010 Big Ten Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Year, put together back-to-back first-place finishes at the Big Ten Championships and Great Lakes regional en route to her second-straight regional award. She finished seven seconds ahead of the rest of the pack to become the first runner in Michigan State history to win back-to-back regional titles.

Price earns the Midwest Women's Athlete of the Year award after taking first place at the Midwest regional last weekend. The junior finished the race six hundredths of a second ahead of the second-place finisher to help Minnesota take third place at the regional.

Drenth receives his second Coach of the Year honor of the season after being named Big Ten Women's Coach of the Year. The Michigan State general guided the Spartans to the Big Ten title, along with the Great Lakes regional title.

The final USTFCCCA women's cross country poll before next week's NCAA Championships has been released, with four Big Ten teams appearing in the top 30. Michigan State checks in at No. 16 after taking first place at the Great Lakes regional last weekend, with Michigan following at No. 17. No. 22 Minnesota and No. 23 Penn State also crack the latest top 30 after receiving at-large berths to the championships.

Big Ten women's cross country concluded NCAA Regional competition on Saturday, with four teams and six individual runners advancing to next week's NCAA Championships. Michigan and Michigan State each earned automatic berths to the championships after the Spartans finished first and the Wolverines took second at the Great Lakes regional.

Minnesota and Penn State earned at-large berths to the championships, while Iowa's Betsy Flood, Northwestern's Audrey Huth, Ohio State's Ellen Birmingham and Meredith Wagner and Wisconsin's Caitlin Comfort and Emily Sisson all individually qualified for the competition.

XC: NCAA Regionals Preview

Big Ten cross country travels to NCAA Regionals this weekend, with all 10 conference squads looking for berths to the NCAA Championships. Indiana, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Purdue and Wisconsin head to the Great Lakes Regional in Rochester, Mich., while Illinois, Iowa and Minnesota travel to the Midwest Regional in Peoria, Ill. Penn State will host the Mid-Atlantic Regional in University Park, Pa.

Four Big Ten teams appear in this week's USTFCCCA women's cross country national coaches' poll. After winning the Big Ten Championships, Michigan State leads the pack at No. 16. Michigan checks in just behind the Spartans at No. 18. Minnesota rounds out the top 20 at No. 20, while Penn State makes an appearance at No. 28. Indiana and Ohio State are also receiving votes in the latest poll.

WXC: MacLeod Named Big Ten Athlete of the Year

Michigan State senior Emily MacLeod has been named the Big Ten women's cross country Athlete of the Year, the conference office announced on Tuesday. Michigan State head coach Walt Drenth received recognition as the Big Ten Coach of the Year, while Wisconsin's Emily Sisson reeled in Big Ten Freshman of the Year honors. The conference also announced 11 Sportsmanship Award Honorees, recognizing one student-athlete from each team who distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior.

WXC: Michigan State Takes Home Big Ten Title

The Michigan State women's cross country team earned its third Big Ten Championships title and its first since 2001 on Sunday at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course in Verona, Wis. The Spartans, led by top individual finisher Emily MacLeod, placed two runners in the top 10 and four in the top 25 en route to a team score of 74. Michigan took second place with 88 points with Minnesota following with 90.

WXC: 2010 Big Ten Cross Country Championships Preview

The 2010 Big Ten Women's Cross Country Championships are set for this Sunday, Oct. 31, at the Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course. The 11 conference teams will begin the six-kilometer race at 10:45 a.m. CT.
