The semifinals of the Big Ten Field Hockey Tournament begin today at Noon CT beginning with No. 1 Ohio State taking on No. 4 Michigan State. The second semifinal features No. 2 Michigan vs. No. 3 Penn State with a start time of approximately 2 p.m. CT. Both contests will be aired live on the Big Ten Network.

The Big Ten Conference office announced the 2010 All-Big Ten field hockey teams and individual awards Thursday, with Michigan, Northwestern, Ohio State winning individual honors. Buckeye junior Aisling Coyle was named Defensive Player of the Year, while teammate Paula Pastor-Pitarque was honored as Freshman of the Year. Northwestern's Chelsea Armstrong was named the conference's Offensive Player of the Year, and Michigan's Marcia Pankratz earned the Coach of the Year honors.

FH: Penn State defeats Indiana, 4-0

No. 4 Michigan State moves into tomorrows first semifinal as they defeated No. 5 Northwestern, 3-1. The Spartans will face No. 1 Ohio State at Noon CT. No. 2 Michigan downed No. 7 Iowa, 2-0 to advance to the second semifinal game tomorrow at 2 p.m. CT. The Wolverines will face No. 3 Penn State who defeated No. 6 Indiana, 4-0, in the last game of opening day. The Wolverines and Nittany Lions matchup will start at approximately 2 p.m. CT. Each semifinal will be televised on the Big Ten Network starting at Noon CT.

FH: 2010 Big Ten Field Hockey Tournament Release Preview

The Big Ten's seven field hockey teams will converge on the Northwestern campus this week, for the 2010 edition of the Big Ten Field Hockey Tournament. The tournament winner will earn the conference's automatic berth into the NCAA Championships.

Opening round matches will be Thursday with No. 4 Michigan State facing No. 5 Northwestern at 10 a.m. CT, No. 2 Michigan taking on No. 7 Iowa at approximately 12:15 p.m. CT, and No. 3 Penn State playing No. 6 Indiana at approximately 2:30 p.m. CT.

Friday's games begin at Noon CT when No. 1 seed Ohio State faces the Michigan State-Northwestern winner, then the winners of the Michigan-Iowa and Penn State-Indiana  games faceoff at 2 p.m. CT. The tournament's championship game will be at 2 p.m. CT on Sunday. The semifinals and final will be televised live by the Big Ten Network.
