Four Big Ten teams will represent the conference at the 2010 NCAA Championship as Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State and Penn State have been selected as part of the 16-team field, marking the 10th straight season the conference has sent three or more teams to the national tournament and just the third time in the last 16 seasons the conference will send four or more teams to the national tournament. The NCAA Championship begins this weekend, with first-round games contested on Saturday, Nov. 13 and second-round games scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 14. First-and second-round matchups will be played at various campus sites.

The 16 teams for the 2010 NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championships will be announced tonight at 8 p.m. ET. The brackets will be revealed when the selection show is streamed live on ncaa.com. The first and second rounds of the NCAA Championships will begin Nov. 13-4 at to be determined campus sites with the semifinals and finals contested Nov. 19 & 21 at the Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex at the University of Maryland in College Park, Md.

Michigan earned the Big Ten's automatic berth into the championships by winning the Big Ten Tournament last weekend with a 2-1 victory over Ohio State.

Michigan earned the Big Ten's automatic berth into the championships by winning the Big Ten Tournament last weekend with a 2-1 victory over Ohio State.
In the final 2010 Kookaburra/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll released on Tuesday, four Big Ten teams ranked among the nation's top 20 while another received votes.
Ohio State, after clinching a share of the Big Ten Championship, moved to No. 7 in the rankings. Michigan, fresh off its Big Ten Tournament championship, moved up to No. 8 in the rankings. The Wolverines finished the season 15-6 and look to improve on their record when they begin play in the NCAA Championships, which begin this weekend. Penn State, with a 14-5 overall record, came in at No. 10 while rounding out the ranked conference schools is Michigan State, which at 15-5 is No. 11 in this week's rankings.
Northwestern is the other conference team receiving votes.
At 8 p.m. ET tonight, the participants for the 2010 NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championships will be officially announced live on a streamed event through this link. Michigan, which earned the Big Ten's automatic berth by winning the Big Ten Tournament, will be one of the 16 teams invited to the tournament.
The University of Michigan won the 2010 Big Ten Field Hockey Tournament for the fifth time, also winning the tournament crown in 1999, 2000, 2004, and 2005. The Wolverines defeated top-seeded Ohio State, 2-1, to earn an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament. Michigan's Paige Laytos and Rachael Mack were named to the All-Tournament team, while Mack earned Big Ten Tournament MVP following a four-goal, two-assist effort in three games.
