Seventeen Big Ten student-athletes have been named to the Capital One Academic All-District Men's and Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Teams, as announced on Thursday. The teams are selected to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined athletic and academic performances.
First team honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team Ballot, which will be selected in June.

The 2011 men's cross country season saw the first NCAA Champion hailing from the Big Ten since 2005, as Wisconsin took home its fifth national title at the NCAA Championships. Four of the five Badger scorers earned All-America status to lead Wisconsin to the crown, while all five competing Big Ten teams placed in the top 25 at the season-concluding meet. Indiana followed Wisconsin in the top 10, placing seventh, while Minnesota took 16th, Michigan finished 20th and Ohio State landed in 23rd.
Big Ten Hauls in Regional, National Awards: The Big Ten brought home several national and regional awards, headlined by Wisconsin head coach Mick Byrne's National Coach of the Year award. Indiana's Andy Bayer, Minnesota's Hassan Mead, and Wisconsin's Mohammed Ahmed, Ryan Collins, Reed Connor, Maverick Darling and Elliot Krause were honored as All-Americans based on their NCAA Championships finish, while Mead also collected Midwest Region Athlete of the Year and Byrne collecting Midwest Region Coach of the Year laurels. Big Ten Championships Roundup: Wisconsin took home its 13th consecutive Big Ten Championship, posting the second-lowest team score (17) in conference history en route to the team's 45th overall title. Big Ten Postseason Awards: After posting a record-setting time at the Big Ten Championships, Wisconsin's Mohammed Ahmed was named Big Ten Athlete of the Year. Badger head coach Mick Byrne collected his fourth straight Coach of the Year honor, while Michigan State's David Madrigal took home Freshman of the Year laurels.
Wisconsin head coach Mick Byrne has been named Bill Dellinger National Men's Coach of the Year, the USTFCCCA announced on Wednesday. Byrne guided the Badgers to the fifth national title in school history and their first since 2005. Wisconsin compiled a team score of 97 as four of the five Badger scorers earned All-American finishes. Byrne's squad also claimed its 13th consecutive Big Ten title en route to earning Big Ten Coach of the Year laurels.

The USTFCCCA announced today its Regional Athletes and Coaches of the Year, with Minnesota's Hassan Mead earning Midwest Region Athlete of the Year accolades and Wisconsin's Mick Byrne taking home Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year honors.
Mead earns his third Athlete of the Year award after finishing first at the Midwest Regional on Saturday. The Gopher senior took home top honors in 2008 and 2009. Mead led Minnesota to fourth place at the regional en route to an NCAA Championships berth. Byrne, the Big Ten Coach of the Year, receives his third award and his second consecutive honor after leading the top-ranked Badgers to their 10th straight regional title and 13th consecutive Big Ten Championship.

Five Big Ten men's cross country teams have earned top-30 rankings in the final USTFCCCA National Coaches' Poll of the regular season. Big Ten and Great Lakes Regional Champion Wisconsin again holds the No. 1 ranking in the country, while Indiana stands at No. 7. Michigan moved up to No. 17 this week, while Minnesota checks in at No. 19. Ohio State rounds out the poll at No. 30, while Penn State is also receiving votes.

After claiming its 13th consecutive and 45th overall Big Ten title, Wisconsin has taken over the top national ranking in this week's USTFCCCA Men's Cross Country National Coaches Poll. The Badgers hold the No. 1 ranking for the first time since 2007. Indiana remains at No. 7 this week, while Minnesota checks in at No. 18 and Michigan follows at No. 19. Ohio State holds No. 28 to round out the Big Ten contingent in the poll.

Indiana holds No. 7 again this week, while Minnesota jumps five spots to No. 12. Michigan also moves up five spots, checking in at No. 21. Ohio State cracks the top 30 this week, moving to No. 26, while Penn State is also receiving votes.
