Four Big Ten men's cross country teams appear in the first regular-season USTFCCCA national top 30 poll of 2010. Wisconsin maintains its preseason ranking at No. 7, while Michigan State cracks the top 20 at No. 18. Minnesota holds No. 27 this week, followed by Indiana at No. 28. Ohio State is also receiving votes.

MXC: Purdue's White Earns Big Ten Runner of the Week Honors

Purdue's Charles White earns his first career Big Ten Runner of the Week honor after helping the Boilermakers take the team title at the IPFW Invitational on Saturday. White finished the 8,000-meter race in 24:12, eclipsing his previous career-best time by more than 30 seconds and marking the fastest 8K by a Purdue runner in more than two seasons. He also took the race's individual title, his first at Purdue.

Penn State's Vince McNally and Wisconsin's Michael Brice have been tabbed as the Big Ten men's cross country Co-Runners of the Week, the conference office announced on Tuesday. McNally helped the Nittany Lions earn first place at the Lock Haven Dolan Duals, while Brice led the No. 7 Badgers to a first-place performance at the Badger Classic.

MXC: Season Begins This Friday

The 2010 Big Ten men's cross country season officially opens this weekend, with seven of the conference's 10 teams hitting the course for their first competitions of 2010 on Friday. Six teams host invitationals to open the season, while the four other teams hit the road for their first meets.

MXC: Four Teams Ranked in USTFCCCA Preseason Poll

Four Big Ten teams have earned rankings in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Preseason Coaches' Poll. Wisconsin garners the conference's highest ranking at No. 7, while Michigan State follows at No. 21, Minnesota checks in at No. 26 and Indiana opens the season at No. 27. Ohio State is receiving votes in the first poll of 2010.

XC/T&F: Three Named Academic All-Americans

Three Big Ten student-athletes were selected to the 2009-10 CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Men's Track and Field and Cross Country Teams, as chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America, it was announced on Tuesday morning.

After finishing fourth in the 1,500 meters at the NCAA Championships, Wisconsin's Jack Bolas was selected a first-team member, having been chosen for the second team in 2009. A pair of Minnesota student-athletes made the teams as Mike Torchia earned a spot on the second team, while teammate Aaron Studt was a third-team selection.

The Big Ten announced on Thursday the 22 student-athletes named Outstanding Sportsmanship Award winners for the 2009-10 academic year. These individuals were chosen from a group of 276 student-athletes honored throughout the academic year who had displayed positive sportsmanship.

One member of each varsity sports team on every campus was chosen by his or her institution as a Sportsmanship Award honoree. From each university's list, two Outstanding Sportsmanship Award winners were then selected. All of the Sportsmanship Award honorees have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. In addition, these student-athletes must be in good academic standing and must have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.
