MINDR T/F: 2010 Big Ten Championships Preview

The University of Illinois and the Illinois Armory will host the 100th Big Ten Men's Indoor Track and Field Championships. This year will feature some of the best teams and athletes in the country with six squads ranking in the USTFCCCA's Top 25. Indiana leads the conference at No. 3, followed by No. 10 Penn State, No. 15 Iowa, No. 16 Wisconsin, No. 20 Minnesota and No. 22 Ohio State.

 

Defending champion Minnesota will look to claim its second consecutive conference crown. The Golden Gophers recorded 160.50 points over the two-day contest. Ohio State finished runner-up with 112.50 points and Wisconsin was third with 81. Purdue finished fourth with 67 tallies, and Iowa rounded out the top five with 56.

MINDR T/F: National USTFCCCA Rankings

The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced on Tuesday the fifth weekly update of the NCAA Division I National Team Rankings for indoor track & field. The Big Ten is tied for first with the Big 12 as the conference with the most top-25 teams in the national poll with six. Indiana, remains in the top-10 at No. 3 while Penn State takes the No. 10 postition. Iowa and Wisconsin take the No. 15 and 16. spots while Minnesota improved five spots in this week's poll to No. 20. Ohio State rounds out the conference at the No. 22 spot in the final tune up before the Big Ten Indoor Championships, slated for Feb. 26-27.

MINDR T/F: Minnesota Sweeps Weekly Track and Field Awards

The conference office announced on Monday the weekly men's indoor track and field awards. Minnesota's Ryan Todhunter earned the nod as Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week, while teammate Micah Hegerle is recognized as the Field Athlete of the Week honoree.

Minnesota's Ryan Todhunter earns his first weekly award of his career after placing first in the 60-meter hurdles last weekend at the Snowshoe Open. Micah Hegerle earns his second weekly award this season after leading Minnesota at the Snowshoe Open last weekend by posting a new school-record and NCAA provisional mark in the weight throw.

Six conference men's indoor track and field teams landed spots in the USTFCCCA national rankings, led by Indiana who moves up two spots at No. 3.  Penn State checks in at No. 9 while Wisconsin and Iowa are up a spot at No. 13 and 14. Ohio State and Minnesota rounded out the conference representatives. The Buckeyes move to No. 21 while the Golden Gophers make the biggest jump of the group, moving up six spots to No. 25 in Wednesday's poll.

Big Ten Network to Air Seven Winter Championships in HD

The Big Ten Network will televise seven winter Big Ten Championships, beginning Feb. 26 with the Big Ten Women's Swimming and Diving Championships. The schedule also features men's swimming and diving, wrestling, men's and women's indoor track and field and men's and women's gymnastics.

The Big Ten Men's and Women's Gymnastics Championships and the second day of the Big Ten Wrestling Championships will be carried live, and all seven championships will be produced in high definition.
