Three Teams Ranked in Latest Top 25 Polls

The latest NSCAA/NCAA Coaches, Soccer America and Top Drawer Soccer top 25 men's soccer polls were released Tuesday. Earning recognition from the Big Ten were Northwestern, Michigan State and Penn State.

The Big Ten's representatives in the coaches' poll were No. 14 Northwestern and No. 18 Michigan State. In the Soccer America poll, the Spartans checked in at No. 12, while the Wildcats earned a No. 13 ranking. In Top Drawer Soccer's top 25 poll, Michigan State was ranked No. 13, followed by No. 14 Northwestern and No. 25 Penn State.

Michigan State improved in all three polls after shutting out Illinois-Chicago, 2-0, on Oct. 1 and defeating Northwestern, 3-2, in double overtime on Oct. 6. Penn State shut out Indiana, 2-0, on Oct. 6, while Northwestern fell to Bradley and Michigan State.

Big Ten play will continue this week. On Friday, Michigan and Penn State will go head-to-head, while Wisconsin will entertain Indiana. On Sunday, the Ohio State-Michigan State matchup will air on BTN beginning at 1 p.m. ET.

Michigan State's Fatai Alashe and Northwestern's Brandon Medina earned spots in the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week. Alashe was also named Player of the Week on Tuesday.

A junior midfielder, Alashe scored his first goal of the season in a 2-2 overtime draw against No. 3 Creighton on Sept. 24. Alashe also assisted on a goal that helped the Spartans shut out Northern Illinois, 2-0, on Sept. 28.

Brandon Medina, Northwestern's freshman midfielder, scored a goal and assisted on the game-winning goal in a 2-0 shutout of Michigan on Sept. 28.

In Big Ten men's soccer this week, Indiana, Michigan, Northwestern, Ohio State, Penn State and Wisconsin will all face nonconference opponents on Oct. 2. Big Ten play will continue on Oct. 6, including a Penn State-Indiana matchup that will air on BTN at 2:30 p.m. ET.

The NSCAA/NCAA Coaches, Soccer America and Top Drawer Soccer top 25 men's soccer polls were updated Tuesday. Big Ten teams earning recognition included Northwestern, Michigan State and Penn State.

Northwestern landed a season-high No. 5 ranking in the coaches poll, while Michigan State and Penn State both earned votes. In the Soccer America poll, the Wildcats improved to a season-best No. 3. In Top Drawer Soccer's top 25 poll, Northwestern checked in at No. 11, followed by No. 19 Penn State and No. 25 Michigan State.

Northwestern moved up in all three polls after a 2-0 shutout of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich., on Sept. 28. Penn State, which has won four straight games, defeated Wisconsin, 3-1, in its Big Ten home-opener on Sept. 29. Last week, Michigan State posted a 2-2 tie against No. 3 Creighton, defeated Northern Illinois, 2-0, and shut out UIC in Chicago on Tuesday, 2-0.

Six Big Ten teams will continue conference play this weekend. Michigan will travel to Ohio State on Sunday, while Northwestern will entertain Michigan State. The Penn State-Indiana matchup will air on BTN at 2:30 p.m. ET.
