Northwestern midfielder Chris Ritter and Penn State forward Mark Wadid were selected to the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week, released on Tuesday. Both Ritter and Wadid earned the accolade after scoring game-winning goals last week.

Ritter was named Most Valuable Player after tallying two game-winning goals, propelling the Wildcats to the Northwestern Lakeside Classic championship in Evanston, Ill., from Sept. 20-22. Ritter's two goals helped shut out Saint Mary's, 3-0, and defeat Fairleigh Dickinson, 2-1.

Wadid scored the lone goals in a pair of 1-0 wins over Robert Morris (Sept. 17) and Duquesne (Sept. 22). This season, Wadid has scored three of Penn State's four game-winning goals, and is currently tied for first in the Big Ten for game-winning goals this season.

Ritter and Wadid were named Big Ten Co-Offensive Players of the Week.

The latest NSCAA/NCAA Coaches, Soccer America and Top Drawer Soccer top 25 men's soccer polls were released. Earning recognition from the Big Ten in the respective polls were Northwestern and Wisconsin.

Northwestern received a season-best No. 6 ranking in Soccer America's poll. In the coaches poll, the Wildcats were ranked No. 7, while Wisconsin and Michigan State earned votes. In Top Drawer's weekly poll, Northwestern led the way at No. 15, followed by No. 25 Wisconsin. Michigan State also received votes in the poll.

Northwestern, which improved from No. 16 to No. 6 in the Soccer America poll, won the Northwestern Lakeside Classic in Evanston, Ill., from Sept. 20-22. For three consecutive weeks, Northwestern has collected Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honors.

Wisconsin earned its No. 25 ranking in Top Drawer's poll after a weekend split at the UIC Soccer Classic in Chicago. Michigan State received votes for its two shutouts against Marquette and Bowling Green.

Big Ten play is set to begin this week. The Wildcats, who have won six consecutive games, will take on Michigan on Saturday. Wisconsin will open its conference slate at Penn State on Sunday.
