Eleven Big Ten men's tennis teams appear in the latest ITA College Tennis Rankings, released on Tuesday. For the third consecutive week, Ohio State occupied the No. 1 spot. Illinois (No. 6) and Northwestern (No. 24) joined Ohio State in the top 25, followed by Penn State (No. 31), Michigan (No. 39), Minnesota (No. 42), Nebraska (No. 44) and Wisconsin (No. 49) in the top 50. Purdue (No. 54), Indiana (No. 57) and Iowa (No. 58) round out the Big Ten presence in the rankings.

Eleven Big Ten men's tennis teams appear in the latest ITA College Tennis Rankings, released on Tuesday. Ohio State claimed the No. 1 spot for the second consecutive week. Illinois (No. 7), Northwestern (No. 23 and  Michigan (No. 26) joined Ohio State in the top 30, followed by Penn State (No. 34), Minnesota (No. 47), Wisconsin (No. 49) and Nebraska (No. 50) in the top 50. Purdue (No. 54), Iowa (No. 55) and Indiana (No. 61) round out the Big Ten presence in the rankings.

Peter Kobelt of Ohio State has been named the Most Outstanding Player of the 2014 ITA National Men's Team Indoor Championship,which concluded Monday. Kobelt is the first Buckeye to receive the honor, which he achieved after winning seven of his eight matches in leading Ohio State to its first national indoor title. The senior went 3-1 at first singles during the ITA National Men's Team Indoor Championship.

Ranked No. 23 in the ITA Division I Men's Singles Rankings, Kobelt defeated two top 10 players during the tournament. He dished No. 3 Mitchell Frank of Virginia only his fifth collegiate loss in a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 win during Ohio State's exciting 4-3 win over the Cavaliers in the semifinal, then defeated No. 7 Ray Sarmiento of USC 6-3, 6-4 in the final. Kobelt and his partner Kevin Metka, who are ranked No. 2 in the ITA Division I Men's Doubles Rankings, went 4-0 at first doubles at the tournament.

Kobelt is joined on the ITA All-Tournament Team by teammates Ralf Steinbach, Metka and Hunter Callahan, while Kobelt and Metka also received recognition as a doubles pair.

After winning the ITA National Team Indoor Championship on Monday, Ohio State claimed the No. 1 spot for the second time in program history and first since 2008-09. Illinois (No. 14), Northwestern (No. 29), Michigan (No. 33), Penn State, (No. 43) and Minnesota (No. 49) also rank in the top 50. Michigan State checks in at No. 53, followed by Indiana (No. 58), Nebraska (No. 59), Wisconsin (No. 67) and Purdue (No. 71).

Ohio State wins ITA National Team Indoor Championship

The fifth-ranked Ohio State men's tennis team captured its first ITA National Team Indoor Championship title with an impressive performance Monday for a 4-1 win over No. 3 USC in Houston, Texas. Guided by director of tennis and head coach Ty Tucker, the Buckeyes defeated four top-25 teams, including two top-five programs, en route to the national title and are now 13-0 overall in 2014 to put Ohio State at its best start to a season in program history.

The Scarlet and Gray captured the doubles point and three of the four completed singles matches to defeat the Trojans, whose last loss was to Ohio State in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Team Championships last May.
