M GOLF: Illinois Remains In Front After Three Rounds

Illinois maintained its 12-stroke lead after the third round of the 2010 Big Ten Men's Golf Championships at the Windsong Farm Golf Club in Maple Plain, Minn. As a team, the Illini fired a 300 in round three, moving their three-round total to 862. Michigan is second with 874 and is closely followed by Iowa (878) and Northwestern (879).

M GOLF: Illinois Leads After Two Rounds

Following the second round of play at the Big Ten Championships hosted by the University of Minnesota at the Windsong Farm Golf Club, Illinois extended its lead in the team standings and is now 12 strokes up on the field as the head to Saturday's third round. The Illini fired a second round of 281 and is six-under par for the championships. Iowa is second with a six-over par 574, three strokes ahead of third-place Purdue.

Illinois' Zach Barlow ended Friday as the individual leader, firing a 66 in the second round and is six-under for the championships. He is trailed by Ohio State's Bo Hoag, who is four-under par and Iowa's Barrett Kelpin, who is at four-under par.

M GOLF: Big Ten Championships Preview

Windsong Farm Golf Club is the site of the 2010 Big Ten Men's Golf Championships, hosted by the University of Minnesota, from April 30-May 2. Opening rounds will begin at 8 a.m. on Friday, then players will head back to the tees at approximately 1 p.m. for the start of the second round. Saturday's third round is scheduled for 9 a.m., and Sunday's final will begin at 8 a.m.

DeForest claims his second consecutive Big Ten Golfer of the Week Award after winning medalist honors and leading Illinois to the team title at the Boilermaker Invitational over the weekend. The junior finished with a 10-under par 206 to win the individual title by six strokes. After a pair of 69s during Saturday's first and second rounds, DeForest cemented his win with a four-under 68 in Sunday's final round, recording a score in the 60s for the seventh time in his last eight rounds.

Chris DeForest, Illinois

DeForest wins his third Big Ten Golfer of the Week honor of the season after leading the Illini to a win at the Crooked Stick Invitational last weekend in Carmel, Ind. The junior won his second tournament of the spring season, finishing first with a six-under par 207, averaging a 69 through the three-round competition. With a low score of 67 in Monday's second round, DeForest fired a 69 in Monday's first round and finished with an even 71 in the tournament's final on Tuesday. Led by DeForest, Illinois finished with a combined score of 859, 15 strokes ahead of the second-place squad to win the team title. The honor is the third of DeForest's career.

M GOLF: Weekly Rankings

Illinois led the way for the Big Ten in the team rankings of the latest Golfweek polls that were released on Sunday evening.

The Illini check in at No. 11 in the team polls this week, led by Scott Langley, who is 21st in Golfweek's weekly individual rankings. Langley leads a list of three conference golfers with rankings in the top 50 of this week's poll.

MGOLF: Penn State's Foley Garners Weekly Honors

Senior Kevin Foley fired an unprecedented 69-68-68, 205 tournament-total to occupy the top spot on the Kepler Intercollegiate leaderboard last week. Foley's eight-under-par, three-round total earned him medalist honors and also set the individual scoring record at the tournament, bettering the previous record of 210 set in 1991, 1998, and 2000. This marks Foley's fifth tournament title of his collegiate career and first of the season. 

MGOLF: IU's Wright Named Big Ten Golfer of the Week

Sophomore Chase Wright earned his first career collegiate medalist honors, doing so in impressive fashion with a seven-stroke edge over the field at the 2010 adidas Hoosier Invitational. The Muncie, Ind., native improved his score by two strokes each round, shooting subsequent totals of 70, 68, and 66. Wright ended the competition at nine-under par, carding a three-round score of 204. His medalist performance led the Hoosiers to a dominating 36-stroke victory in the event.

MGOLF: Iowa's Hopfinger Named Big Ten Golfer of the Week

Junior Brad Hopfinger, ranked 59th in Golfweek's collegiate polls, went 3-1 at the Callaway Collegiate Match-Play Championships in Marana, Ariz., last week to lead the 13th-seeded Hawkeyes to a fifth-place finish. Sitting in Iowa's number one spot, the Lake Forest, Ill., native bettered three of the nation's top-100 collegiate golfers to propel Iowa over No. 14 Arizona State, No. 11 UNLV and most impressively, No. 2 Stanford.

MGOLF: Penn State's McDonagh Collects Weekly Accolades

Tommy McDonagh led Penn State in last weekend's Pinehurst Intercollegiate with an eighth-place finish at four-over par. The Nittany Lion junior sank nine birdies and finished with a card of 73-71-76 (220) to  trump ranked opponents such as No. 21 Kelly Kraft of SMU and No. 86 Jack Newman of Michigan State. McDonagh's top-10 finish aided his squad to a tie for third place as the Nittany Lions compiled an 887 team score on the weekend.
