Penn State junior Tommy McDonagh earnedhis first Big Ten Golfer of the Week award after leading the Nittany Lions at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate with an eighth-place finish last week. The Nittany Lion junior sank nine birdies and finished with a card of 76-71-73 (220) to  trump ranked opponents such as No. 21 Kelly Kraft of SMU and No. 86 Jack Newman of Michigan State. Scott Langley fired consecutive rounds of 68 en route to a runner-up finish at the LA Classics Invitational held at the 7,141-yard par-72 Oakbourne Club in Lafayette, La., last week. The junior Illini carded a 73 in the final round of competition to tally a seven-under 209 score, just one stroke shy of the top spot, in leading his team to a second-place finish.

MGOLF: Illinois' DeForest Garners Weekly Accolades

Chris DeForest posted a pair of wins in singles dual and four-ball match play to lead the No. 13-ranked Illinois to its seventh straight victory over Illinois State in the Tinervin Cup at Coral Creek Golf Club in Placida, Fla., last week. The Illini junior fired a 68 to win the head-to-head matchup against Joe Emerich in singles before teaming up with Ross Frankenberg to down Will Cullen and Emerich in 5 and 4 in four-man better-ball match play. The two victories helped Illinois defeat the Redbirds, 9-0, marking the first shutout in the Tinervin Cup since the inaugural event in 2004. This is the first Big Ten Golfer of the Week award for DeForest's career.

MGOLF: Purdue's Duncan Earns Weekly Honor

Purdue sophomore Tyler Duncan earns his first Big Ten Golfer of the Week award after leading the Boilermakers to a sixth-place finish at the Puerto Rico Classic last week.  Duncan opened competition with rounds of 69 and 71 before posting a 68 in the final round to finish in a tie for seventh place individually with an eight-under score of 208. MGOLF: NU's Lipsky Takes Home First Weekly Honor in 2010

Northwestern junior David Lipsky earned the first Big Ten Golfer of the Week award of the 2010 season after posting a perfect 4-0 mark in leading the Wildcats to the Big Ten Match Play Championship. Lipsky's biggest win of the weekend came versus second-seeded Iowa, when he came from three holes down with eight to play to win his match. MGOLF: Northwestern Captures Big Ten Match Play Title

Northwestern swept Purdue Saturday afternoon in the title contest of the Big Ten Match Play Championship at Heron Bay Golf Club. All six Wildcats won their matches to help NU move to 7-1 all-time in tournament since the event's conception last season.

MGOLF: Big Ten Match Play to Kick Off 2010 Season

All 11 men's conference golf teams will begin the 2010 season at the Big Ten Match Play Championship slated for Feb. 12-13 in Coral Springs Fla, at the Heron Bay Golf Club.  The course layout is expected to be a 7,268-yard, par-72. The Big Ten Network will be on hand to televise the event, airing tape delay coverage on Sunday, March 14 at Noon ET.

Each paring consists of six individual matches between the schools. Indiana emerged with the team crown at last year's inaugural event as the Hoosiers defeated Michigan in the tournament final.

Three conference programs begin the 2010 season rated in the top 50. Illinois begins the spring campaign ranked No.7 nationally in the Golfweek computer rankings. Michigan and Iowa round out the conference contingent inside the top-50 squads at No. 36 and 47, respectively.
