Nevolo wins his first Athlete of the Week award of the 2010 season and the third of his career. The sophomore helped No. 12 Illinois to wins over No. 17 Texas A&M and No. 34 Northwestern this past weekend. Nevolo, ranked 43rd in the nation, played at No. 2 singles against the Aggies and Wildcats and posted two victories, a 6-1, 6-2 win over No. 33 Jeff Dadamo of Texas A&M and a 6-2, 6-1 win over Northwestern's Spencer Wolf. Against the Aggies, he teamed with Marek Czerwinski to knock off the No. 9 team of Austin Krajicek and Dadamo, 9-8 (4), then paired with Johnny Hamui to defeat the Wildcat tandem of Alex Sanborn and Wolf, 8-3.

Buchanan notches his third Big Ten Athlete of the Week certificate of 2010 after the No. 3 Buckeyes defeated No. 13 Louisville and No. 17 Texas A&M over the weekend. The sophomore defeated two top-35 performers at No. 1 singles, first downing A&M's Austin Krajicek, 6-3, 7-6 (7-3), then knocking off No. 34 Austen Childs of Louisville, 6-4, 6-7 (1-7), 6-4. Also performing at No. 1 doubles, Buchanan and teammate Dino Marcan paired to upset the No. 9 Aggie team of Krajicek and Jeff Dadamo, 8-7 (7-5), as the Buchanan helped Ohio State to its 99th straight home dual match victory.

Ten of the conference's men's tennis squads appeared in the latest National Team Rankings, released Tuesday by the ITA.
Ohio State is the highest ranked Big Ten squad, checking in at No. 3 and is joined in the top dozen squads by Illinois, which comes in at No. 12. Northwestern ranks 34th this week and is trailed closely by No. 36 Michigan and No. 37 Wisconsin. Four Big Ten teams occupy spots in the 40s, with Penn State at No. 42, Indiana at No. 43, Minnesota at No. 46 and Iowa at No. 49. Purdue rounds out the ranked-conference squads, appearing at No. 65 nationally.

Athlete of the Week Marek Czerwinski Sr., Birmingham, Mich./Marathon (Fla.)
Czerwinski wins his second career Big Ten Athlete of the Week honor and first of the 2010 season. The Illinois senior scored a win for the Illini at No. 3 singles, defeating Florida's Antoine Benneteau in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5. Czerwinski then teamed with Stephen Hoh at No. 1 doubles to knock off the No. 10 tandem of Benneteau and Alexandre Lacroix, 9-7, to help the Illini clinch the doubles point against the Gators. He improved his record to 6-2 at No. 3 singles this season and has won six of his last seven singles matches.

Athlete of the Week Chase Buchanan, Ohio State So., New Albany, Ohio/New Albany
Buchanan earns his second Athlete of the Week honor of the season after leading No. 3 Ohio State to a pair of wins on Sunday. The sophomore, ranked 36th in the nation, battled eighth-ranked Eric Quigley of Kentucky at No. 1 singles in his only singles match of the day. Buchanan came away with a 7-5, 6-2 win, helping the Buckeyes to a 5-2 victory over the No. 9 Wildcats. Later in the day against Wright State, he teamed with Justin Kronauge at No. 2 doubles to defeat Tore Waldhausen and Brian Dredge, 8-2, as part of a 7-0 Ohio State triumph. On the season, Buchanan is 11-4 in singles play, 7-1 and at No. 1, and is 5-4 against ranked opponents.

Madden wins his first Big Ten Athlete of the Week honor after helping No. 36 Michigan to a 4-3 win against No. 35 Notre Dame over the weekend. Playing at No. 5 singles, Madden defeated No. 74 Blas Moros, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, to earn the decisive point in the match, marking his second match-clinching victory this year. He also helped Michigan win the doubles point by teaming with Chris Cha at the No. 3 spot, knocking off Notre Dame's tandem of David Anderson and Daniel Stahl, 8-3.

Marcan earns his second career Big Ten Athlete of the Week honor after scoring a pair of wins over ranked opponents at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships over the weekend. In the lineup at No.3 singles, Marcan defeated No. 16 Jarmere Jenkins of sixth-ranked Virginia, 6-1, 6-4, in the semifinals, which marked Ohio State's third appearance in the round of four at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships. Earlier in the tournament, Marcan knocked off No. 81 Andrew Carter of No. 16 Louisville, 6-3, 6-4, to help the Buckeyes into the quarterfinals, where they defeated No. 12 Florida to advance to the semifinals.

Action is underway in Charlottesville, Va., at the 2010 ITA National Team Indoor Championships. The Ohio State and Illinois men's tennis teams represent the Big Ten in the competition for the team championship, which will be decided on Monday.

Playing at No. 1 singles against both squads, Buchanan, ranked 103rd in the nation, first knocked off No. 90 Bassam Beidas of Pepperdine, 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 (7-2), as the No. 3 Buckeyes defeated the Waves, 6-1, on Friday. On Sunday, the sophomore defeated No. 36 Clay Donato of North Carolina in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, to help Ohio State defeat the Tar Heels, 6-1, move to 6-0 on the season, and run its consecutive home-match winning streak to 95.

Nine Big Ten schools rank in the top 75 of the latest ITA National Rankings, released Thursday.
Leading the Big Ten pack is Ohio State, appearing in the top five at No. 3. Illinois moved up three spots to No. 12 this week, while Wisconsin moved up seven places to No. 25. The Big Ten occupies three consecutive places in the rankings, beginning with No. 36 Michigan, followed by No. 37 Minnesota and No. 38 Northwestern.
Indiana checks in at No. 49 this week, while Penn State appears at No. 56 and Iowa ranks 58th nationally.

Athlete of the Week Justin Kronauge, Ohio State Sr., Dayton, Ohio/Centerville
Kronauge wins his fourth Big Ten Athlete of the Week award after posting a 4-0 record week as No. 3 Ohio State advanced to the ITA National Team Championship. In wins over No. 51 New Mexico on Saturday and No. 35 Tulsa on Sunday, Kronauge played at No. 1 singles and paired with teammate Chase Buchanon at No. 1 doubles. Against New Mexico, the Ohio State senior won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, after earning an 8-7 win in doubles. Versus Tulsa on Sunday, Kronauge won 8-2 in doubles action then again won in straight sets, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2, as the Buckeyes finished the weekend with a pair of 7-0 triumphs.
Last Ohio State Athlete of the Week: Dino Marcan (Jan. 19, 2010)
Two Big Ten men's tennis teams, Illinois and Ohio State, earned berths in the 2010 ITA National Team Indoor Championships, which will take place Feb. 12-15 and will be hosted by the University of Virginia.
The 15th-ranked Illinois Fighting Illini advanced to the championships with wins over No. 27 Virginia Tech and No. 26 Washington. The Illini defeated Virginia Tech by a 6-1 decision on Friday and blanked Washington 7-0 on Saturday to advance to nationals.
Third-ranked Ohio State punched its ticket to the championships after blanking two opponents over the weekend. The Buckeyes scored a 7-0 victory over No. 51 New Mexico on Saturday, then knocked off No. 35 Tulsa, 7-0, on Sunday.
