W GOLF: Golfer of the Week

Big Ten Golfer of the Week:
Laura Kueny, Michigan State
Sr. - Whitehall, Mich. - Whitehall

Kueny wins her third weekly award of the 2010 season and fourth overall. The senior won her second career tournament by claiming medalist honors at the Lady Buckeye Invitational on Sunday. She fired an 11-over par 227, edging Ohio State's Rachel Rohanna by one stroke, with a low of 73 in the invitational's final round. Led by Kueny, the Spartans finished second overall with a team total of 933, closing with a 302, the lowest round by any team over the weekend. Kueny finished Sunday's back nine with a one-under par to close out her second tournament title.

W GOLF: Weekly Rankings

In the latest rankings released by Golfweek Magazine on Sunday night, three Big Ten women's golf teams earned places in the top 25.

Coming in at No. 8 and leading the Big Ten trio in the rankings this week is Purdue. The Boilermakers are ahead of No. 13 Michigan State and No. 19 Ohio State. Individually, Boilermaker Maude-Aimee LeBlanc is ranked eighth individually, one of nine conference golfers to appear in the top 100 of this week's individual ranks.

WGOLF: Spartan Senior Tabbed Big Ten Golfer of the Week

Senior Laura Kueny propelled Michigan State to the top of the team leaderboard at the Gator Invitational last week after firing a 212 for second place. Her three-round score of 73-68-71 was good enough to tie her career low. Kueny's total of 212 was bolstered by her second round of 68 on Saturday, which tied an MSU single-round record. This is the second weekly honor for Kueny this season and her third overall.

WGOLF: Penn State's Fanelli Nabs Weekly Award

Gia Fanelli collects her first Big Ten Golfer of the Week honor after earning a top-five finish at the Canes and Cardinal Classic in Miami, Fla., last week. The Nittany Lion junior improved in the final round, finishing the tournament in a tie for fourth place after firing her best round of the season in the first round with a score of 73. Her fourth-place finish matched her career-best finish, which was at the Bucknell Invitational last season. Fanelli finished with a card of 226 (73-79-74) for a +10 in leading the Nittany Lions to an eighth-place finish (944) at the event. 

WGOLF: Michigan's Bauer Named Golfer of the Week

Michigan senior Ashley Bauer carded consecutive rounds of 68 to earn her second individual title with a career-best, four-under 209 tally at the Rio Verde Invitational last week. The top-finish gives Michigan its 25th individual title in program history and set a new U-M record for a 54-hole event. The Grand Blanch, Mich., native has yet to miss a tournament in her career, making appearances in 44 straight events. Freshman Amy Meier earns her first Big Ten Golfer of the Week award after leading Ohio State to a second-place finish at the Kinderlou Forest Challenge. For the second-consecutive tournament, Meier was the top finisher for the Buckeyes, carding a three-over 222 to finish in a tie for seventh place at the two-day, 54-hole event. READ MORE ...

WGOLF: Junior Gopher Earns Weekly Honor

Minnesota's Teresa Puga collected her third top-10 finish of the season by finishing in a tie for fifth at the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic last week. The A Coruña, Spain native, carded a third-round score of 71 after posting consecutive rounds of 74 to compile a three-over 219 mark. The 54-hole mark ties Puga for the fifth-lowest individual score in Minnesota history and is one stroke shy of her career-low. READ MORE ...

WGOLF: MSU's Kueny Tabbed Big Ten Golfer of the Week

Michigan State's Laura Kueny earns her first weekly award of the season after placing in the top 10 of the Regional Challenge last week. The Spartan senior closed the tournament at eight-over with a 221 (69-73-79). In Monday's first round, Kueny tied her career-best round with a 69.

WGOLF: Purdue's Gulyanamitta Earns First Weekly Honor in 2010

Purdue's Numa Gulyanamitta earns her third career weekly award after leading the Boilermakers to a runner-up team finish at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic over the weekend. The No. 12-ranked junior opened the tournament with a 71 before playing par golf in the next two rounds, carding a one-under par 215 - good enough for a team-best sixth-place finish.
