PSU's Lucas Named Finalist for Wooden Award

Penn State junior guard Maggie Lucas was named a finalist for the John R. Wooden Award by the Los Angeles Athletic Club, it was announced on Wednesday. Selected by the Wooden Award National Advisory Board, the ballot is made up of 15 student-athletes who have proven to their universities that they are making progress towards graduation and maintaining at least a cumulative 2.0 GPA.

The Wooden Award All-American Team, consisting of the nation's top five players, will be announced the week of the "Elite Eight" round of the NCAA Tournament. The John R. Wooden Award Player of the Year will be announced at the 2013 Wooden Award Gala presented by Wendy's on April 12, 2013, at the Los Angeles Athletic Club.

NCAA Men's Swimming & Diving Championships Qualifiers

Indiana's Derek Drouin has been named the National Field Athlete of the Year, the USTFCCCA announced on Tuesday. Drouin earns the award for the second time after winning in 2011. The Olympic bronze medalist won the NCAA indoor high jump title with a clearance of 2.35 meters, the best mark since 1990 and the second-best in collegiate history. Drouin also became one of just three collegians to clear 2.34 meters indoors.

Four Big Ten teams are receiving votes in the latest Associated Press (AP) and USA Today Coaches polls. Penn State and Purdue check in at No. 8 and No. 21, respectively, in both polls, while Nebraska sits at No. 24 in the AP poll and No. 25 in the coaches ranking. Michigan State is receiving votes in both polls.

Nebraska checks in at No. 11 and Minnesota sits at No. 14. Penn State is No. 16, while Illinois follows at No. 17. Ohio State claims the No. 20 spot, while Iowa rounds out the poll at No. 25.

Penn State holds the top spot for the eighth consecutive week, while Michigan follows at No. 2. Ohio State sits at No. 4, while Illinois and Minnesota follow at No. 6 and No. 7, respectively. Iowa is No. 9 and Nebraska rounds out the top 10 at No. 10.

Nine Big Ten Standouts Named To USBWA All-District Teams

Nine Big Ten student-athletes have been named to the USBWA All-District Teams, highlighted by Michigan's Trey Burke earning District V Player of the Year honors, it was announced on Tuesday. Joining Burke on the District V team is Illinois' Brandon Paul, Indiana's Victor Oladipo and Cody Zeller, Michigan's Tim Hardaway Jr., Minnesota's Trevor Mbakwe, Ohio State's Aaron Craft and Deshaun Thomas and Wisconsin's Jared Berggren. Additionally, Indiana's Tom Crean was named District V Coach of the Year.
