Sixteen Big Ten men's gymnasts and Penn State assistant coach
Kevin Tan advanced to Saturday's final of the Winter Cup Challenge based on their efforts following the opening day of action on Thursday.
Up for grabs at this meet are 15 spots on the United States National Team, 10 of which will be awarded to the 10 highest-ranking gymnasts as determined by the National Team Points Program and five others will be selected by the Men's Program Committee
Current Big Ten student-athletes advancing to Saturday's final include Illinois' Tyler Mizoguchi, C.J. Padera, Daniel Ribeiro, Paul Ruggeri, Luke Stannard and Chad Wiest; Michigan's Kent Caldwell, Chris Cameron, Phillip Goldberg, Thomas Kelley, Ian Makowske and Mel Anton Santander; Minnesota's Aaron Fortunato; and Ohio State's Ty Echard, Steven Spencer and Brandon Wynn. In all, 43 of the 120 gymnasts that participated in the preliminary round on Thursday advanced to Saturday's final.
Following Day 1, Cameron is second overall with 59 points, Wynn is fourth with 53 points, and Tan is fifth with 47 points. Final all-around and individual rankings are based on the combined scores from Day 1 and Day 2.
