M GYM: Weekly Rankings

All six Big Ten men's gymnastics squad appeared in the top half of the GymInfo Men's National Team Rankings, which were released Monday.

The top two spots in the latest poll belonged to Big Ten squads as Illinois came in at No. 1 and Michigan checked in at No. 2. The teams total scored are two points higher than any other school as the Illini boast a team score of 353.750, while Michigan has a team score of 353.500. Ohio State and Penn State are fifth and sixth, respectively, in the rankings, Minnesota is eighth, and Iowa is rated ninth.

M GYM: Gymnasts of the Week

The Big Ten Conference office announced the weekly award winners for men's gymnastics on Monday.

Michigan's Thomas Kelley and Minnesota's Aaron Fortunato shared Big Ten Gymnast of the Week honors, while Penn State's Felix Aronovich claimed his second Freshman of the Week honor of the season.

In the updated GymInfo National Rankings released on Monday, the Big Ten's six men's gymnastics teams appeared in the top 10.

Illinois is this week's top team after their opening the season with a total of 353.750 points and a team championship at the Windy City Invitational. Michigan is third after totaling 351.350 points at the Invitational, while Ohio State is fifth with 347.150 points scored at the meet. Penn State scored a 345.425 at the West Point Open and is sixth in the poll, while Iowa ranks eighth (339.600) and Minnesota is 10th (337.650).

M GYM: Gymnasts of the Week

On Monday, the conference office announced the Gymnast and Freshman of the Week winners. Gymnast of the week honors went to Illinois' Paul Ruggeri, who won his fourth weekly award by virtue of finishing first in the all-around at the Windy City Invitational on Sunday. Freshman of the Week honors were shared between Illinois' Yoshi Mori and Penn State's Nick Grant.

M GYM: Gymnast of the Week

In the first weekly awards of the 2010 men's gymnastics season, Penn State's Felix Aronovich won Gymnast and Freshman of the Week honors and helped the Nittany Lions to a 341.000-314.350 win over Army on Saturday.

Aronovich scored a 14.200 on the pommel horse, then a 14.300 on the parallel bars in his individual event victories.

M GYM: Penn State Kicks Off Conference Gymnastics Season

The Penn State Nittany Lions will open the Big Ten men's gymnastics season on Saturday, with the conference's remaining squads beginning action next weekend.

The Nittany Lions host Army on Saturday, one week before the conference's remaining five gymnastics squads begin competition. The following weekend, Penn State will travel to West Point, N.Y., for the West Point Open Jan. 15-16. On Jan. 16, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota and Ohio State will open their 2010 campaigns in Chicago for the Windy City Invitational.
