MSWM: OSU's Andrew Olson Named Swimmer of the Week

Andrew Olson brings home the first weekly award of the season to Columbus, Ohio, after claiming two wins for the Scarlet and Gray to lead Ohio State to a 120-73 victory over Cleveland State last Tuesday. The Buckeye senior captured top honors in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:39:28 - the fastest mark by any Buckeye this season in the event. Olson then followed that performance with another winning effort in the 100 freestyle, clocking a 45.63 for the individual title. With the team win, Ohio State improves to an unblemished 4-0 on the year.

There was no selection for diver of the week.

MSWM: Northwestern and Purdue Garner Weekly Laurels

The conference office announced on Tuesday the seventh weekly men's swimming and diving awards for meets through Nov. 16-22. Northwestern's Sean Mathews was tabbed Swimmer of the Week and David Boudia nabbed Purdue's third straight weekly diving award.

MSWM: Weekly Award Honorees

The conference office announced on Tuesday the fifth weekly men's swimming and diving awards for meets through Nov. 9-16. Michigan's Andre Schultz earned his first weekly swimming laurel of the season and Purdue's David Colturi collected his second-consecutive Diver of the Week honor.

MSWM: Weekly Rankings

Six Big Ten teams earned spots in the CollegeSwimming.com/CSCAA Division I Coaches Poll released Tuesday, led by No. 7 Michigan. The six conference squads rate second for the most of any conference in the nation.

Voting in just outside the top 10 is Minnesota at No. 11, The Golden Gophers are followed by Ohio State at No. 14, Purdue at No. 16 and Indiana and No. 18. Rounding out the conference contingent is Penn State, checking in at No. 25.

Three Big Ten teams are also receiving votes in Iowa, Northwestern and Wisconsin.

MSWM: Purdue Sweeps Weekly Accolades

The conference office announced on Tuesday the fifth weekly men's swimming and diving awards for meets through Nov. 2-9. Purdue's Aaron Koger nabbed the weekly swimming laurel while Boilermaker teammate garnered Diver of the Week accolades. The selection marks the first time a Purdue tandem swept the weekly laurels since Jon Schmitt and David Boudia accomplished the feat on Nov. 18, 2008.

The conference office announced on Tuesday the fourth weekly men's swimming and diving awards for meets through Oct. 27-Nov. 2. Indiana's Titus Knight collected his second swimming honor in as many weeks while Minnesota's Drew Brown and Wisconsin's Michael Ross split the weekly diving award.

MSWM: Indiana and Iowa Earn Weekly Awards

The conference office announced on Tuesday the third weekly men's swimming and diving awards for the 2009 season. Indiana's Titus Knight was tabbed swimmer of the week and Iowa's Frank Van Dijkhuizen collected his sixth career weekly diving honor.

MSWM: Penn State's Alden Named Men's Swimmer of the Week

Sophomore Brian Alden garnered his first career weekly laurel after leading the Penn State men's swimming and diving team to a decisive victory over St. Bonaventure in its 2009-10 season opener. The Nittany Lions captured eight event titles to top the Bonnies 144-97, with Alden leading the way with a pair of individual wins and a third in the 200 freestyle-relay. The Lansdale, Pa., native won the 200 free event by an amazing 4.4 seconds and took the 100 free by a 1.5 second-margin. In the relay, Alden was the first in the water for the Nittany Lion squad, which won by a narrow eight-tenths of a second.

There was no selection for Diver of the Week.

The conference office announced on Tuesday the first weekly men's swimming and diving award winners for the 2009 season. Michigan's Charlie Houchin was tabbed Swimmer of the Week and Wisconsin's Caleb Percevecz garnered his fourth career weekly diving laurel.

MSWM: Ready to Dive Into 2009-10 Season

The 2009-10 season of Big Ten men's swimming and diving begins Friday, Oct. 9, with four conference teams in action. Purdue and Wisconsin will open their campaigns at home, while Iowa and Michigan prepare to hit the road for their respecitve season openers. Iowa will take to the water on Friday, as the Hawkeyes travel to Kirksville, Mo., to meet Truman State in a 5 p.m. (CT) dual meet. Also on Friday, defending Big Ten Champions Michigan will kick off its season at the Dennis Stark Relays hosted by the University of Notre Dame.
