WGYM: 2011 All-Big Ten Teams Announced

The Big Ten Conference announced today the 2011 women's gymnastics All-Big Ten teams and Sportsmanship Award honorees. The 11-gymnast first team and nine-gymnast second team were chosen through a vote by the conference's coaches. The 2011 All-Big Ten teams and Sportsmanship Award honorees can be found below.

Six Big Ten women's gymnastics teams appear in the final set of GymInfo rankings before the Big Ten Championships, released on Monday. Michigan and Penn State retain their top-10 rankings this week, as the Wolverines sit at No. 9 with a regional qualifying average of 196.320 and the Nittany Lions hold No. 10 at 196.045. Iowa moves up three spots to No. 14 (195.820) this week, with No. 15 Ohio State (195.800) and No. 16 Illinois (195.790) following closely. Minnesota rounds out the group of conference teams, sitting at No. 21 (195.225) this week.

Illinois' Allison Buckley and Ohio State's Sarah Miller have been named the Big Ten Gymnast and Freshman of the Week, respectively, the conference office announced on Monday. Buckley took first place in the all-around and won two event titles at the State of Illinois Classic, while Miller picked up two first-place finishes to lead No. 14 Ohio State to a tri-meet win against Missouri and Pittsburgh.

Six Big Ten women's gymnastics teams appear in the latest GymInfo rankings, with all six earning top-20 status in this week's edition. Michigan remains at No. 9 this week, holding a regional qualifying score of 196.045. Penn State follows at No. 10 with a score of 195.940, while Ohio State checks in at No. 14 (195.670). Illinois holds No. 16 (195.575), followed by No. 17 Iowa (195.515) and No. 19 Minnesota (195.255).

Penn State's Sharaya Musser has been named the Big Ten Gymnast of the week for the third consecutive week, while Illinois' Amber See and Minnesota's Kayla Slechta have picked up Co-Freshman of the Week accolades, the conference office announced on Monday. Musser won every event title in a tri-meet with Maryland and N.C. State, while See picked up two first-place finishes against Western Michigan and Slechta took second in her all-around debut.

The Wolverines hold the ninth-best Regional Qualifying Score in the country at 195.955. Penn State follows, falling one spot to No. 11 this week with an RQS of 195.675. Ohio State jumps four spots to No. 13 (195.560), while Iowa moves back one place to No. 16 (195.400). Illinois follows at No. 17 (195.300) and Minnesota checks in at No. 20 (195.080).

Penn State jumps eight spots from last week's edition, moving to No. 10 with an RQS of 195.300. Illinois checks in at No. 14 (195.150) with Iowa following closely at No. 15 (195.145). Ohio State falls three places to No. 17 (195.055), while Minnesota drops to No. 21 (194.775) in the latest edition.
