Among the storylines, Ohio State and Penn State have met in eight of the previous 16 Big Ten Tournaments, with each team owning four wins. The Lady Lions earned the first two contests in the series, including a victory to capture the very first Big Ten Tournament title in 1995. PSU defeated the Buckeyes in the 1996 semifinals en route to its second straight postseason conference title, however the '96 crown was the last time Penn State won -- some 15 years ago.
The Buckeyes have claimed the past two BTT titles and three overall, with the first coming in 2006.
In the overall BTT series between the two teams, the higher seed has a 6-2 record. The lone two losses came at the hands of the lower-seeded Buckeyes in 1997 (No. 10 over 7) and 2003 (No. 4 over 1).
In Big Ten Tournament history, the No. 2 and 5 seeds have met just once. No. 5 Indiana defeated No. 2 Penn State 75-72 in the championship game of the 2002 Big Ten Tournament here at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
